Jenkins Construction Co.

Builder

Jenkins Construction Co.

Jenkins Construction was established from 1937 to 1947. The company was owned by Bernard F. Jenkins (1891 – 1981). Bernard was an officer in the US Navy and was president of the Building Contractors Association. In the early 1960s Jenkins was the head of the Belleview Center Company, a real estate development business specializing in commercial properties. Jenkins built 18 homes within TPEHD.

Master Builder Chris Cosgrove worked for the Jenkins Construction Co. from 1939 – 1946. His responsibilities included being a salesman, draftsman, manager and master builder.

In 1941, while working for Jenkins Construction Co., Cosgrove built and lived at 4701 Madison Avenue in Talmadge. A lengthy article about this “Masterpiece Home” appeared in the San Diego Union on January 26, 1941.

In 1942, while working for Jenkins Construction Co., Cosgrove also built 4825 Adams Avenue in Talmadge. This home has been designated as a historical resource in the City of San Diego. The house is called, The Gabriel & Marie Berg House. The house is listed as being built by Chris Cosgrove in the above referenced report to the Historic Resources Register (HRR), but the building permit of record and the notice of completion shows Jenkins Construction as the builder. During this period, Chris Cosgrove was running Jenkins Construction Company.

Chris Cosgrove ran into legal difficulty. To learn more about Chris his criminal history, read the Homebuilder’s Biography under Chris Cosgrove.
